I don't want to speculate but all talk, here and on the "news" today as got me thinking. I keeping hearing about their connections to Russia and that they were followers of Islam but these guys have been here for quite sometime and were citizens. How do we know they aren't crazy gun nuts using these attacks as "protests" against the government or against gun control advocates. I'm not saying I'm right, or that I even believe this but is it any less plausible then any other idea we've heard today? I'm going to wait to see what the feds can find out and so should everyone else should as well. Don't listen to the media, they have botched the reporting of this event even worst than they usually do.

Probably spend time at the same right-wing weapon/armament oriented websites.

DID THEY USE BOMBS LOADED WITH SHRAPNEL TO KILL AND MAIM PEOPLE?
If the answer is 'yes,' which it is, then I give exactly zero country FUCKS about what guns they're toting around
except to the extent that they place law enforcement at risk as they help them die.
The evidence against them being teabillies, or garden-variety gun nuts, is nearly zero at this point.

(43,155 posts).....wonder if any of our domestic gun enthusiasts suddenly change their tune?
Or, much more likely, simply engage in cognitive dissidence.
My money's on the latter.

(2,515 posts)Two law enforcement officials said they believe there is a Chechen connection to the bombings. In the last several months, Tamerlan Tsarnaev had posted videos to YouTube indicating his interest in radical Muslim ideologies.

(16,113 posts)tied up with RW extremists, hate groups, the Tea Party, the NRA, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, the Koch brothers, the Republican party and Karl Rove.
Sure they are allegedly originally from Chechnya, and have allegedly made statements to indicate a belief in islam (usually not popular within the circles above), but that doesn't prove that they weren't right wing nut cases.
As every knows, one of the issues college students care about MOST is the taxation. Go to any college campus and you'll hear dozens of conversations about students complaining about all the taxes they're paying and how the government is wasting their money.

(7,932 posts)that would still put them on the right wing, with the tea party and the bible thumping Christians, the only difference is then we would have to listen to those people scream about "how they told us that muslin were evil" and "how they spit on Jesus" and such. In the end it really doesn't matter what the motives were because even if they were tea partyers or NRA members or anything like that, the right wing would figure out a way to distract American's from doing anything to protect ourselves from another attack of this kind.
PS I know I spelled Muslim wrong, I did it on purpose.
hughee99
(16,113 posts)Islamic extremists and bible thumping Christians are pretty much the same thing. While you might be correct when comparing philosophies, the whole point of the connection is to tar our political enemies, and you're not going to convince anyone that we need to go after the tea-baggers, the NRA and their ilk because Islamic extremists are basically the same.
Hell, the teabaggers have been speculating that this was islamic extremists from the get-go, and some of the left (including a significant number of DUers) have been saying it's not, but rather a bunch of WHITE anti-tax, pro-gun, racist, extremists.
Well, they set off bombs in a crowd, so whoever did it is going to be an extremist.
