for buying guns.Do they check the social media sites of applicants? Example: Twitter, You Tube, Facebook,etc.If not do you think they should ? When something like this happens its only afterward those sites are checked.Provided if they purchased guns legally

1. IIRC it is a police and mental health records check

which is why it can be an "instant check" in some places.

2. It depends on the background check being done.

The federal NICS sytem would not include checking those things. A local law enforcement agency doing a background check for CCW might check.
