(58,179 posts)I've been scolded a few times for, I think, personally destroying civil liberties in America.
This place can really be a bag of smashed assholes sometimes.

(28,581 posts)I think the BPD is doing a great job. Very proud of Boston right now. Every family member and friend in the city are all very glad to stay home and let the cops do their job.

(4,459 posts)Priceless. If nothing else, I love DU for the fantastic phrases I pick up here. In reality, I'm not nearly as clever as my friends think I am.

I think most of DU is standing with you guys today, though.

Far better I guess, to let people wander around so more can be killed and hinder LE in their search.

(3,891 posts)We all saw pictures of police with assault weapons on every corner and approaching every car with weapons out, and ready, searching for Richard Dorner.
Remember that manhunt? When two pick up trucks of innocent people were shot up by Police over-reacting to the threat of a bad guy who wanted them dead?
Look at the pictures, remind yourself of that manhunt, when they did much the same thing in Big Bear, because that was where the bad guy was, as they're doing in Boston.

(15,481 posts)They didnt look in houses without broken doors.
Savannahmann
(3,891 posts)Are kicking down doors at random to search for this guy? No way. The Fourth Amendment still applies. They have to have probable cause to enter a house, or a warrant.
I read somewhere that the Police are going door to door. Let's say I answer the door, and say "He's not here" and then close the door. What do the Police do then? They better go on down the block, because if not, they are violating the Fourth Amendment.
Gang, the Bill of Rights applies even in matters like this. The city is closed, fine. That doesn't mean I can't go anywhere. I can go outside, get in my car, and drive on down the road. Freedom of travel is a Constitutionally guaranteed freedom.
They can close public places, and places of assembly, for a short term during an emergency. But they can not restrict travel of the citizenry.
If we are now supporting Rethug dreams of Gestapo state tactics, I'm going to be very dissapointed.

Maybe a DU fundraiser like the hearts one, could be warrented. The donations could be split between Tx and Boston's 1st responders.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)I really need to get out there one of these days. I've known several people from the area and they've all been the stereotypical Bostonian. Gruff, tough with a heart of gold. I like that. I get the feeling when they shut down the city and told everyone to go home for the day, most went home changed their clothes and then went looking for him. I'd worry more about the citizens of Boston than the feds.
So, to Boston from a misplaced Chicagoan...
