Adolphus Busch IV resigns from NRA

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2013/04/18/adolphus-busch-iv-nra_n_3112750.html

Adolphus Busch IV, heir to the Busch family brewing fortune, resigned his lifetime membership in the National Rifle Association on Thursday, writing in a letter to NRA President David Keene, "I fail to see how the NRA can disregard the overwhelming will of its members who see background checks as reasonable."

The resignation, first reported by KSDK, came a day after the Senate rejected a series of amendments to a gun control bill, including a bipartisan deal to expand background checks for gun sales. The NRA had vigorously opposed all those measures.

"The NRA I see today has undermined the values upon which it was established," wrote Busch. "Your current strategic focus clearly places priority on the needs of gun and ammunition manufacturers while disregarding the opinions of your 4 million individual members."

As I have said before: gun control isn't my thing, but I'm more than cynical enough to use it to get us the House back.

(And even as a non gun control guy, I think background checks are a good and reasonable policy.)

but Adolphus Busch IV is not a good man. In the early eighties, while attending the U of Az, he was in a drunken accident in which a girl was killed. He skated on all charges. a few years later, another woman was found dead at his house. He was a very spoiled rich kid and escaped justice more than once because of his family fortune.

I know Adolphous personally and I can tell you from experience that he is a very decent person and should not be confused with his malcontent spoiled nephew.

Ted Kennedy drove drunk and Mary Joe died.
Laura Bush drove drunk and killed her classmate

Neither had any real punishment. There are plenty of ordinary citizens that have killed with their autos and got next to nothing. We are not really serious about DUI murder as we should be. You get more time in jail for using almost any other weapon, but when you turn a car into a weapon, it is not as bad for some reason. They even put a qualifier on it. Vehicular Homicide, but if you were murdered by say a gun it is just plain Homicide. Dead is dead no matter how it came about.

He puts his money where his mouth is too. He installed a large bank of solar panels that power his farm outside of St. Louis and is a big donor to causes and politicians who are in favor of wetland preservation.
