This should be fun.

(55,445 posts)I've got a phone book full of topics dating back to 2006 (Lieberman's primary) through today (Trayvon Martin/other high-profile SYG cases and Israel's policies towards certain ethnic minorities)...
To this day I have gotten ZERO apologies/retractions/whatever, and there are no fucks given by anyone involved...My advice to you is to *NOT* rub people's faces in shit because you were right -- It'll be self-defeating and only burn you up inside...

(89,239 posts)but we see the internet was wrong the first time with those 2 guys , and the 2nd time with the missing boston student.
now i'm feeling really bad for the family of the missing student. they are already dealing with him having gone missing but to have people accusing him of those horrible attacks to just add to it.

(1,941 posts)We don't know anything until the facts are in. I thought it would likely be domestic with a 50/50 split between political motivation or just an interest in slaughter. Odds favored a lone nut.
However, none of that is the sort of thing worth banking on. Keep options open. There's still much we don't even know about these guys now, like everything.
To speculate is fine but to make any prediction with a sense of surety is silly.

(3,724 posts)But I won't be apologizing for that. So, if you still want to dance around me and point and laugh and do the old neener neener, be my guest. I'm at work getting ready for a presentation, so I'm afraid I can't give you my attention, but please proceed anyway - it seems like you need that validation.

(3,724 posts)What other reason could I possibly have?
And frankly, my little bit of speculation on an internet site called Democratic Underground caused exactly no one to search for the wrong person. But if you want me to shoulder the whole burden, fine.

(9,748 posts)Had it been Rightwing terrorism it likely would have taken place on Tax Day in the city that was the site of the original Tea Party (since most RWers mistakenly believe the Boston Tea Party was a tax protest).
This had none of that.

(6,665 posts)It's natural that folks respond to such events by first targeting whatver group they don't like. Unfortunately it is the root of prejudice. I hope we can all learn and move forward.

(39,665 posts)And I say that as the only guy on DU who pegged the Times Square guy as a foreigner.
And as a guy who had zero idea this go-around.
Unless you're just out to make more friends, then please, continue.

(2,969 posts)'Who me???...well, I never,...it's really the NRA's fault. I blame gun owners, they're the real problem. This OP is just an NRA talking point meant to aid the terrorists. How DARE you assume they are Muslim, these guys are caucasions sooooo they are probably gun nuts and who knows their REAL motivation'
You actually expect people to admit they were wrong on DU?, no one is ever wrong (in their own mind) on DU!

(28,979 posts)It is basic detective work to look for possible suspects with motive.
Maybe not be wise to express certainty without facts, but what's the point of acting so superior about it? Targeting other DUers in this way makes DU suck.

(39,909 posts)While I understand your nervousness and excitement,
and the impulse to post your joy at breaking your odds defying streak,
it is a little pre-mature to be ejaculating your cries of self-aggrandizement.
We still know very little.
Cris Carter, the all-star Minnesota Wide Receiver in the 90s was noted for something besides catching passes. In an era when spiking the ball and absurd end-zone celebrations were peaking, Cater was noted for his lack of end zone celebrations. When asked about this during a TV interview, Carter responded, "That stuff is for the Rookies. I've done this so often that its not worth a party in the end zone."
While speculation about any and all national and not-so-national tragedies is human nature,
it is best to simply avoid those threads until solid information is available.
