Earlier from MSNBC and Fox News
Most likely here on student visas or permanent residents.
According to several news agencies.
However, if they are permanent residents, why have the FBI has not released their Green Card photos to the public?

(89,182 posts)Normally, I don't watch them, but they are reporting that too.

(7,820 posts)Was the one I heard reporting this. I'm hoping we get real identification soon.

(42,239 posts)has anything at all occurred to confirm that either suspect is the missing student ? I ask because of some real Micky Mouse stuff being posted on FB.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)As definitive. Shouldn't have.
Lex
(34,108 posts)or otherwise overheard saying that, but that certainly it not confirmation.

(7,820 posts)Pete Williams on MSNBC specifically said he had been told by multiple sources Sunil was not one of the suspects. We still don't have identities, but I feel so bad for this young man's family if on top of everything else their missing loved one has been this publicly and wrongly accused. And yes, based on some of the earlier reports I entertained the possibility that he was one of the bombers.

(42,239 posts)Difficult to keep track here in the UK with so many rumours floating around.

(53,833 posts)You pose some great questions.

(14,157 posts)and not this grainy images they have been showing. The images are on USCIS data systems for green cards.

(15,689 posts)So, Turkey, what did the Boston Marathon ever do to you?
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)As per WHDH (local Boston affiliate), they were Turkish, were legal residents and had been here for about a year.
Turkey?

(53,833 posts)It could be related to another regional issue and that is the Chechen/Turkish battles.

(2,751 posts)Politically Turkey is at the intersection between Europe and the Middle East. Turkey is a NATO member and has applied for entry to the EU.
Religiously, Turkey is 97% Muslim. Turkey was long considered a role model by the west for what a secular Muslim state could look like, but it has increasingly had Islam influence politics.
Ethnicity in Turkey is a tricky subject politically and likely to spawn much disagreement (i.e. who exactly is or isn't a Turk).

(48,788 posts)So the media is perhaps as confused as I was.
Bernardo de La Paz
(48,788 posts)Wrong, wrong, wrong.
He grew up in Bryn Mawr. Has family living in Providence.
He was missing for a month. FBI was involved early on.

This kind of stuff is easy to find if you just look. You did not. You don't even link to the "several news agencies".

(14,157 posts)This is what I have heard on MSNBC and Fox. Are you calling me a liar?
Bernardo de La Paz
(48,788 posts)Just seeking the real information. The initial police reports named two suspects in the MIT and Watertown shootings, but they have since retracted the information.
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)NOT Turkish! Chechen but lived in Turkey for a number of years. AND they were brothers. (From the same Boston affiliate.) The 19-year-old is the one on the lamb.
Bernardo de La Paz
(48,788 posts)On edit: new reports seem to have replaced the earlier reports I read.
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)There's been a lot of confusion, understandably. They actually said the names of the two suspects but they are "furin" names and I probably couldn't pronounce them, much less spell them. Apparently the original story comes from AP. (Can't find it yet.)

(15,689 posts)Like maybe we didn't support their secession efforts enough?
When regions like Georgia or Chechnya or the Ukraine rebel against Russia the US is very interested. It is also sometimes covertly involved.
As the other poster asked, How did these brothers even get over here? That's a good question. And I ask, again, why would big brother have an axe against America? Clearly he is -excuse me, was- a terrorist, and he trained his younger brother to be one too. But why did he take up arms against us, the country that gave him refuge? He did not suddenly decide to become a terrorist in less than a year after receiving a gaining entry into the US, the land of milk and honey. No fucking chance. This guy was a terrorist long before, over there in Russia. How does such a cold blooded murdering sonofabitch get a visa? Because we mistakenly thought he was our cold blooded sonofabitch.
