It's Personal This Time.

I live in Boerne, TX. Tomorrow, my daughter won't be sending my grandson to his first grade class or the two little ones to daycare. She's too shaken up. A 13-year-old in the middle school across the street from my grandson's elementary school had an argument with some other students and told some friends he was bringing his guns to school and killing some of his classmates. Fortunately, he was heard and reported. When police searched his room, they found guns and several rounds of ammunition. The weapons and ammo belonged to him and his parents were aware he possessed them. He's in Kerrville tonight in juvenile detention for making "terroristic threats."

I know that when you're young, you do crazy stupid things that you regret the rest of your life. I try to be understanding of kids' foibles because I was holy hell growing up. But, my grandson attends grade school across the street from Boerne Middle School. That makes it very personal.

These gun nuts that give their kids guns and ammo and let them keep it in their rooms when they're 13 fucking years old deserve the 9th circle of hell. Someone with that level of maturity shouldn't be around weapons that can instantly kill several people; that can topple them down like bowling pins on the whim of a child's angst. I don't understand what goes through their damn minds. Maybe tomorrow or the day after, I'll scare up some compassion for that 13-year-old. He didn't ask to be born to that family. Right now, I can only think of my grandchildren.

Wow. That's crazy. While I don't think our guns should be taken away from us, I DO think someone of that age shouldn't have unsupervised access to them. I don't let my nine year old play with toy guns even!! I think at thirteen the only gun you should be able to own is a WATER gun!! UGHHHH. I think it's almost as though parents that allow young children firearms is almost like them supporting violent acts!! Yes. A child can be taught proper handling and control of guns BUT they STILL shouldn't be allowed them without an adult present!! It's BS and just gives the anti gun supporters more ammo for their fire!! It's parents like those that make laws like these come forth. And personally I think the parent be held accountable in part as well. No thirteen year old can purchase a fire arm. Or any other arm at that. Not even a bow and arrow!!

My dad 'gave' me my first .22 rifle when I was about 6, but I didn't get to KEEP the fucking thing in my room. It was kept locked up where it belonged.

Most of you probably know me pretty well by now as being fairly 'pro-gun' (Though I do support universal background checks and registration, and maybe safe storage requirements depending on how it is implemented) but goddamn every single fucking time I read one of these stories, I truly despair for the average capacity and competence of Americans. Like, we just haven't collectively earned this responsibility yet.

Every damn time...

A child being afraid to go to school or a mother afraid he might be killed is an outrage. I cannot believe any person would defend how horrible this situation is. And I absolutely think those parents should be in jail for giving that child a gun. They would be if they had given him pot or alcohol. How sad the US has become.

for parents to give their kids guns and look the other way. But it's not.

Thank you for posting.
