(20,176 posts)The hat is well-worn. He didn't buy it Sunday, it's been on his head fairly regularly for at least the last 4 months. People have almost certainly seen him in that hat, probably associate him with that hat.

(7,212 posts)Look at the black versus other patches of equal luminosity like the black pants of the woman behind him...the hat is much lighter, faded. It's also more faded across the center of the brim. All signs of wear. Likewise, the white of the (( )) at the temples is less white, more dingy than the stock photo of the same hat brand new.
It also looks worn but that may just be the low-res slightly out-of-focus picture.
