It's been three days. I suspect the FBI has reviewed airport and Amtrak camera footage for Boston, New Haven and NYC and have come up empty so they are reaching out to the public. I think these guys are long gone and we're already looking at a cold case. I sure hope I'm wrong, though.

Watching Bloomberg, and Falkenrath, who has been excellent so far, made the point that as young as they appear to be, there must be a support network behind them. Given this was done at around the anniversary of both Waco and McVeigh, on Patriots Day, in Boston, on tax day, and the ATF is active in the investigation and was right from the start (they have no jurisdiction in foreign sourced bombs) likely domestic. That means the support network is domestic.
The FBI knows all of this, and you can be sure they're working the domestic militia movements and their fellow travelers hard.

Far far more likely they were part of a domestic network who went to Boston specifically because it was Patriots Day there. Lexington and Concord.
90% on that. 10% on something else. Nothing is of course certain at this point; the timing, the age of these guys, where they chose to attack, point to domestic and far right. The bomb type points more to the Middle East, so I'd allocate 9 of the remaining 10% to that possibility. 1% other, which would be your scenario. In my opinion, not high probability.

I was just using Boston as an example, but there are plenty of people in this age group with the ability to make these bombs.

Testing would be easier in other parts of the country, since a bang would be less noticable if you set one off under some sand in a gravel pit in a rural area.

If from another state, they probably traveled by car, paid cash for gas, etc. The certainly look like they could be domestic, but they could also be Middle Eastern or North African. White hat has fairly light skin, a big nose, and curly hair.

But never guessed they have been in the US for ten years.
