The distance between the words "terrorism" and "Boston Marathon Bombing" will now start increasing in the media drone until we forget they were ever linked. Across the Islamic nations, a collective sigh of relief can be heard, as the otherwise inevitable and bloody retaliation is now on hold.

Sources say investigators are trying to identify a person described as a young white man who is standing in the crowd near the scene of the second bombing just before the device exploded, reported CBS News correspondent Bob Orr. A surveillance camera at a nearby Lord and Taylor department store captured images of the man who was carrying a backpack and talking on a cell phone.
The man was wearing a black jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a white or off-white baseball cap backwards. He is 6 feet or 6-feet-2-inches tall with a medium build.

(48,181 posts)I ain't jumping anywhere. In fact I've held back stating the obvious for several days. This was not the work of al qaeda.

We grow them ourselves.

(48,959 posts)Doesn't matter what the motive is, it is terrorism. Period.
And of course most people and society will over-react. They are being fearful of going into public places and crowds. There will be calls for intrusive searches at public events.
That's what the real terrorism is. The fear and the irrational fear and the over-reactions.
Warren Stupidity
(48,181 posts)Lets start with:
The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
As a simple definition. 9-11 is clearly a terrorist act. Newtown, on the other hand, unless and until the motives are determined to be political, is not.

(48,181 posts)CBS has been standing by this story since last night. Unlike CNN they appear to have actually done the fact checking before doing the reporting.

(12,647 posts)It was by far, the best report of the day. If they have his cell phone record and photo ID, we may be seeing him in person very soon. You can run but it's definitely hard to hide when the entire country is looking for you.

(34,179 posts)I don't care who is doing it, CNN, CBS, the NYP, or even here on DU, it is stupid to do this sort of speculation, and it carries the risk of endangering some innocent or ruining their lives.
Wait until the actual cops say something, please.

(5,252 posts)I wonder if they're the two suspects. It would be interesting to find out that they are and that they're already easy for anyone to find.
EDIT: I've been told that those two men have been cleared. So, apparently, pics of the suspects are not easy to obtain.
