I'm sorry but between The bombing The Poison letters and now this explosion in Texas JUST WAY TOO MUCH in basically a 3 day span. I don't want to sound like a jerk but I just needed to RANT.
I know a lot of people probably feel the same way and if you need this thread to let out a "yell" go ahead.

(143 posts)terrorism and poison in mail making the news are highly correlated.
Meanwhile the story that a bipartisan panel confirmed that US tortured people has gotten no traction anywhere in the media but some breif mentions on MSNBC.

(103,856 posts)News is inherently about "bad things" that happen.
It would be totally insane of news people to report breathlessly that 278M people successfully made it safely to and from work today, and nothing bad happened..
Not that many years ago, we would see a snippet o the evening news (if we had the tv on) or read about it on page 3-C of the paper .
Things that happened elsewhere was of little consequence to any who did not live there or have family there.
We now live in a world of news overload, and there is no escaping it..

(21,046 posts)Yeah, it's an accident. Regardless of the cause, people are still dead and injured and it's traumatic to see on TV and think about.
There was also an explosion today at the Exxon Mobil plant in Beaumont.

(3,991 posts)Doesn't sound too big though. It might just be we all have the gain turned way up and are paying attention to things we wouldn't normally notice.

(1,206 posts)Between the NRA's tightening grip on the senate, the unabated rhetoric against children of immigrants, etc.,
My uncle-in-law's job received a prank bomb scare call yesterday. Of all times for people to act like idiots, this week is not the week for that bs.
I might think, so but they got the guy who mailed ricin. Clearly unrelated to this. Early reports also seem to make Texas an accident.

(143 posts)Fires at facilities happen daily in the USA.
Congress being bought off and gutless happens daily in the USA.
The only difference is that because of boston some people are just paying closer attention to the news. Were it not for Boston I doubt the factory fire would be on cable news... except maybe faux which loves disaster porn.

(2,529 posts)The shit gods haven't stopped crapping on us. I'm canceling taking my grandkids to Fiesta in San Antonio. I'm scared of being in crowds now. They never caught that jerk that put that bomb at the MLK Walk and now, we have another mad bomber on the loose. Whoever that guy was that said that your chances of getting killed by a terrorist were about as good as being hit by lightning hasn't seen the poor Oak tree outside my window that got struck. That's ten feet from where I sleep and makes the odds look better.
