General Discussion

I would suggest to those of you that have been pissing on them since Selma-
Knock it off. You are not going to browbeat them into agreeing with you or shame them into 'seeing the light'.
Quit treating them the way Malcolm X treats Klansmen
You have learned today what indulging in cultural warfare will get you-
Nothing
So, unless you'd like anti-discrimination to go the way of alcohol prohibition, stop otherizing them.
You are not automatically smarter or better educated than they are, most of them are just as law abiding as you are.
There are millions of law-abiding racists and they tend to vote far more often than the public at large.
So unless and until you are prepared to permanently forgo the votes of 20-25% of the voting pool,
a change of attitude on your part is in order.
And for you bitter-enders that won't let go: Please consider leaving the Democratic Party
Go form and form some sort of Civil Rights/Abolitionist Party.
There's even a role model for you:

(12,751 posts)They truly think DU is their oyster, and that peddling that obnoxious, bloody, right-wing agenda undercover here somehow makes them "heroes."
For those wondering who haven't seen it, I'm parodying this absurd, ridiculous pro-NRA OP:

(24,721 posts)Come on. Leave the Democratic party? Enough of this gunner b.s.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Apr 17, 2013, 10:29 PM, and the Jury voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No one said "Leave the Democratic party".
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Spot on...imo. Carry on.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: It's an opinion and I don't see it as hide-worthy.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: Those who would be appalled by the callousness, lack of compassion, and poor timing of such a screed would be those who have their heads screwed on straight. This soulless, morally-challenged doesn't fit in with DU.

(12,751 posts)It's a brand/version of White Privilege and brazen Right-wing arrogance at it's worst. They truly do think they own this place, even though the vast majority of DU'ers have nothing but contempt for their ideology and pro-NRA bullshit.
Thanks again for your kind words about my (of-course satirical) OP.

(1,290 posts)Most of the time it's 4-2, or 3-3, and almost every jury is comprised of three people who will hide, one member who posts exclusively in the gungeon, one member who thinks jury duty is a waste of their precious time (unless the subject of the post in question deals with their pet issue), and one juror who disagrees with the post but votes to leave it, and recommends that you "debate" and "prove the poster wrong".
Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a META thread.

is correct as far as handling the DU Gungeoneer's goes. There always seems to be at least three good DU'ers willing to give right-wing Gungeoneer's a pass, plus one "hanging around" right wing Gungeon poster (let's face it: all those "regular" posters in the Gungeon from the Host on down who take the NRA line are NOT progressives or liberals, and it's highly doubtful any of them are even registered Democrats; it's a pretty well known fact), who always manages to "tip" the balance to either 3-3 or 4-2.
I think this is because most DU'ers, being decent human beings and genuine progressives, still can't fathom that the vast, vast, vast majority of our "pro gun progressives"* are actually pro-NRA conservatives in disguise, playing a pretend-game of being "Democrats" here on DU. Their own good and admirable natures partially blind them to how much cloaked evil their is hiding beneath the masks in the Gungeon, skulking behind the phony mantra of "pro gun Democrat" or "pro gun progressive."**
On the other hand, the secretly organized attempt in the Gungeon to alert my every post, while it has gone forward for the last six months, has failed: out of nearly five hundred total alerts, and two hundred organized alerts, including 88 on my sig line alone, I've had less than fifteen hidden. That's a miniscule amount, and speaks well to how the vast majority of DU'ers serving on juries aren't fooled by the Gungeoneer's organized alerting and stalking campaign.
So, the good with the bad; the upsides with the down.

(52,160 posts)you can ban people from being on juries about your posts. It isn't hard to figure out who is and who isn't in favor of gun control and to eliminate the top two or three in favor of gun control. Then eliminate one who will enforce rules, harder to find but still able to be found. Pretty soon you have juries that are all but guaranteed to give the results those juries are giving.

(24,721 posts)He really rubbed me the wrong way because people should be grieving & reflecting on the Bostonians (& now, the people in Waco) right now. That OP mirrored the same lack of respect for human lives as the soulless, sadist bomber who has a propensity for using weapons that kill in the most horrific way.
It's not time for anyone who is in duck-step with the NRA to gloat about today's vote, which was bought by the NRA. Personally, I don't think it's ever the time for posting any pro-gun statements on DU. The violent massacres really bring that home; encouraging gun-control laws should be the order of the day.
You were brilliant.

It's been fun, folks. But when the umpire openly declares support for one team on the field - and also decides to publicly play fast, loose, & coy with the batting score as a manifestation of that support - it's time to move on. I wish nothing but the best for you all, friend & foe alike. Take care, stay cool, and drink one for me every once in a while. You folks are the best.

The culture war works in the NRA's favor, that's why you see people on their side playing up that angle, and people on the gun control side focussing on pragmatic angles such as reducing gun deaths.
