Look at today's vote on background checks. 90% of the public approves and we can't even get all the Democrats in the senate to support it much less the Repukes. As long as it's a bill proposed by President Obama, there is no chance of it ever getting out of congress.
President Obama realized this when he put forward Chained CPI. It was simply put out there to highlight Boener's proposal.

(13,685 posts)Obama just gave them a little of their own rope.
However, Obama did say in 2008 that he would "try to fix SS" in his term in office.

(45,851 posts)I've heard it from people I deal with in real life several times already.
And there's not a fucking thing I can say to them, they are right, Obama proposed it.

(3,145 posts)He's not trying to fake out the Republicans. He's offering them what he considers a legitimate bargaining chip. The fact that they won't accept isn't because they don't want to. They simply don't want to meet him even halfway. It's totally unlike today, when they voted against the background checks because they DIDN'T want them, and Obama was pissed.
They did not vote against background checks because they didn't want them, they voted that way because they were afraid of the NRA. They were only worried about losing all that money the NRA gives them. They did what their masters told them to do. It's really that simple!

(3,145 posts)when he is offering them what they WANT. And in no way is he offering Chained CPI because he doesn't want it as well, because he does want it.
