Hate to say it, but I was right about needing the pictures of Newtown.

I was afraid this would happen. A combination of weak willed Democrats and craven Republicans killed the very watered down backround check bill. So we could end up with the one and only bill passed as a result of 20 first graders getting mowed down by a deranged nut with a military rifle will be to permit people with concealed carry permits issued by states that will give them to anyone and everyone will see those honored by states which actually give a crap about their people. Someone has those photos. I know the parents of Newtown have given alot, but they sadly have to go that extra step. They have to do what Emmit Till's mom did, they have to show us what we wrought with our illconceived, devil may care, gun laws. We need our noses rubbed in it until they are covered with the crap we have wrought.

They fucked up by not passing this watered down bill today. Now the pictures might get released and Bloomberg will use his $ to run ads. A tougher bill might come out of this.

"Here is a silver lining: you may have noticed that Senate Majority Leader Reid voted against the amendment himself, switching his vote to a "no" at the last minute. This allows him to re-introduce the amendment and bring it up for another vote whenever he wants without the need for a cloture vote."

I hope he is correct in his assessment. The Newtown parents have learned a lot about the sausage factory in a very short time, and I trust him... My friend and his wife were on their last nerve in DC last week. Today was a terrible heartbreak for them.

These red state Senators won't be voted out for this. And filibuster is making the will of red state ruralism strong over the rest of the country. We live in their world unless Reid changes the Senate rules. I live in Connecticut as well. These families have done enough. They cannot fix this, it's broken.

GOP senators from such non rural states as Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Arizona all voted against. they should be able to be voted out.

I'm Thinking The Only Thing Left To Get Congress To Do The Right Thing About Guns Is......

and I'm going to preface this before I make my suggestion because it would really be a terrible thing for the parents and families of the kids that were shot up at Sandy Hook to experience - but I'm thinking it is the only thing that can move both the American People and the Congress. It would be a big sacrifice on the part of those Sandy Hook families - but I think it would get the task done and would be a tribute to all those killed in such mass shootings.

And that is to show some of the pictures of the kids that were shot. Show the effects of the destructive work of the guns - bullets - clips - and what it does to a body.

I know that this is really objectionable - but I don't think most people - including many gun owners - have any concept of what a gun does to a human body.

I don't think anyone could defend guns after seeing such pictures - not the Congress, not gun owners, not the NRA.

As Americans we've been pretty sheltered from the destructive effects of guns - even in war - we've been sheltered. Those scenes are usually blocked out or blurred when such scenes are shown on the newscasts.

I think if the American People could see the effects first hand - there would be no question that we would get Congress to do the right thing with respect to gun laws.

I know that I'm opening myself up for a lot of criticism here - but I thought that this situation is getting to a point where something like this is needed. We can't continue to go on like we have been and risk another Sandy Hook.

I later posted that of course any release of any pictures of the kids that were shot up there - has to be on the approval of the parents. There would be no other way that those should be released.

Waving pictures of murdered children like bloody flags.

How is this is different from the pictures of aborted fetuses the Right wants to show us?

but then again I think of that naked Vietnamese little girl running down the road after being hit with napalm...that one picture did a hell of a lot to remind people that war is death to children as well as soldiers.

unlike pretty much any other Supreme court upheld right, hasn't moved in popularity since it having been upheld. It is hard to show that the anti abortion movement hasn't had a decent amount of success.
