Next time a gun lover says they want to keep guns away from criminals...

Remind them how the gun lobby fought so hard to defeat universal background checks.

It's a goddamned lie. They have no interest in keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. They don't want to do anything that might inconvenience private gun sales.

Fuck the NRA and their supporters.

At Wed Apr 17, 2013, 08:53 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

Che was a gun nut.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2696009

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

Troll.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Apr 17, 2013, 09:00 PM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Silly post, not worth hiding.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: Yeah, it's probably a troll. I hope the alerter clicked the TOS button so MIRT can take a look.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: The alerted post is a perfectly fair comment to someone who wants gun control, but idolizes a rebel leader who was well armed and committed acts of gun violence.

Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: Agreed. Troll.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Well, it's not a promising start, I'll give you that, but the thread start does have a Che avatar, so it is sort-of relevant.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: Troll/

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future

And that they all are disinterested in keeping guns out of criminal hands? You can't possibly be that illogical. Please tell me that the "they" in you last sentence meant the gun lobby and not "gun lovers" in general.

I'll bet some called in opposition though.

It's time gun owners actually start acting "responsible" rather than just talking about being a "responsible gun owner." Only thing "responsible" by most of them is cleaning their lethal weapons, and most do it far too often because they like the feel . . . . . .

I sent a letter to Ron Wyden last year on gun control in general (received a reply, too - and it wasn't machine-generated boilerplate...pretty cool), and tried to present my position: generally pro-gun-rights, but actively supportive of a good number of sensible controls. I focused on closing the "gun show loophole" and mandating security measures (gun safes, locks, etc.). I didn't contact wither Wyden or Merkley as I didn't think they'd be at all on the fence on this bill.

thanks for previous efforts. That is more than most in gungeon would do with respect to guns (other than maybe buy another one, and encourage others to do the same).

15. I've noticed denial on that.

I've also noticed that most of that denial takes the form of semantic quibbling (and not very many people on here do "semantic quibbling" well...but I digress). That there is a "gun show loophole" is a matter of demonstrable fact. Maybe it would be better termed a "private sale loophole," but that doesn't alter the fact that there is a loophole. In my view, expanding background checks was a no-brainer. I'd have preferred a bit different measure (one that included enhancing and opening the NICS system to private secure access so that any person could get a "yes or no" answer about someone they were going to sell a gun to...then mandating such checks on all private transfers), but the version voted on was workable.

As I mention in another thread (I think...might be this one...), the best thing thing could happen for the majority of gun owners would be for the NRA's stranglehold on that side of the gun control argument to be broken. That organization completely dominates the pro-gun "voice," yet its positions on many of the proposals recently under consideration are out of line with the views of the majority of gun owners (assuming polling is reasonably accurate). It's like having a loudmouthed, drunken uncle dominate the public impression of a family...

and helps keep the non-criminals afraid so they buy more guns too. Which is also good for business. The only loser is society.

about dead kids in Sandy Hook or dead movie goers in Aurora or about anyone else who is cut down thanks to their deadly little hobby if it means even the slightest impairment of their "right" to play with assault weapons in their living rooms, or strut through Wal Mart with a pistol perched in their pants.

They. Just. Don't. Care.

And that includes our basement full of "pro gun progressives,"* too.

quite clear, and manifest - just like a drug addict deep in throes to a physical addiction. Good observation.

I can sympathize with the drug addict, though: he or she can't help themselves, and need life intervention. The gun nuts have no such excuse, however: most of them simply don't give a damn about how many people their bloody little hobby kills. They are psychopaths, in the literal definition of the term.
