Why seniors are already suffering from inadequate COLAS and chained CPI would

make things worse for everyone. I'm seventy-three and started on a new type of job this week. I'm pet sitting for people on vacation, feeding and caring for them, watering their plants and picking up the mail. Sure it's a good job for an old lady and this old lady is grateful that she has already lined up a few clients. As long as I can drive, and walk a dog, it's a great gig. So this morning after going to feed my client's sweet kitty and doing some watering, I went to K-Mart to pick up some cleaning supplies.

The cashier was an old woman about my age. She was very slow and I could tell it was painful for her to move. No doubt she is working because her Social Security is insufficient and she can still stand up without falling over. Someone else I know spoke of an 86 year old woman who was working at "Borders" and wasn't that wonderful! Really? I once worked at a bookstore when I was young and it was hard work with a lot of heavy lifting. We should really be retired and enjoying our golden years and pampering those arthritic joints and dimming eyesight and hearing loss instead of straining to work at jobs we have lost competence at years ago.

Imagine with the chained CPI how many more will be dumped into a job market that is straining already and taking jobs that really should go to younger people. This is not a smart move economically any way you look at it, even if the humanitarian angle goes over your head.

Well, I'm off to feed that kitty and do some more watering.

for their wisdom acquired through experience, not forced to labor at menial tasks.

I am 74 and wondering how I could get a part-time job. Yours sounds like a good choice, since I am an animal lover. I will have to see if I can line up some clients. How much do you charge for your services? I would like to get an idea, so maybe I could advertise in the local neighborhood newspapers. Send me a PM, since it is getting late and I probably won't see this thread in the morning.
