Since 90% of the people, including most members in the NRA, support background checks to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and the mentally disturbed. They will continue to march to the orders of the NRA until they are defeated for their extreme views. It should be a political issue, in my humble opinion.

(2,673 posts)I totally agree. This week here in Dallas, we had a man shoot his pregnant girl friend, killing her and their unborn baby. She had six children who have now lost their mother. Would this have turned out differently, if the man was not able to get hold of a gun?
The politicians are on the take from the NRA, the gun and ammo business. More guns, more ammo, means more profits and more contributions to the politicians. In the meantime, we, the tax payers are footing the bill for all the gun violence. Emergency medical care, support for children of parents killed, more police needed on the streets, more court cases to file.
I will make sure that when I vote, I will never vote for any politician who supports the NRA. I am sorry to say, that my vote probably won't count for much in Texas.
