There is some confusion about the fire at the JFK Library. It's been closed indefinitely

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is being closed “indefinitely” while an investigation continues into whether a fire there is linked to the Boston Marathon bombings.

Shortly after the marathon bombings, a fire broke out near a new entrance at the library, which is several miles from the marathon finish. Some employees insist they heard a loud blast as a fire ensued that damaged a conference room and auditorium.

Initial police analyses were contradictory and included a theory that a mechanical fire was the culprit. On Tuesday, Tom Putnam, the library head, said it remained unclear what caused the fire.

But both Monday and Tuesday had been normal work days for library personnel, who are federal employees and weren’t impacted by Monday’s Patriots Day state holiday. They were informed early Wednesday of the shutdown.

I'm thinking it could have been set as a diversion to draw emergency responders away in one direction while the bombs went off.

Unless it does turn out to be some teahadist gun humper.

...someone bombed that library, especially because no one was hurt and it was (presumably) meant to harm the building then...

Then the FBI's profile of the perpetrator suddenly got a little more specific. So many things revolve around Boston, Tax Day, etc. Tough to weed out what it would be from what it could be, motivations-wise.

This tragic event seemed to be buried. First I've heard about this. I am trying hard not to jump to conclusions. Must. Stop. Self.

to the bombings. I wonder why all the secrecy about the possible connection? I haven't heard anything more (until now) about it since Monday.

I wonder if they stayed quiet about it to prevent more panic about a wider spread attack.

A coincidence is "a striking occurrence of two or more events at one time apparently by mere chance." If it is a coincidence, by definition it is not related. It will be investigated to make sure it was just a coincidence and not a plot.

Coincidences happen all the time in real life as a function of chance. Real life isn't a novel, where plot requires that coincidences be related, and therefor not coincidences as a part of western story telling.
