A fourth-grader at Betz Elementary School will be disciplined later this week after bringing a toy gun to school Tuesday afternoon.

School officials called police about 1:30 p.m. after other students reported a classmate appeared to have a gun. The student was not arrested, and classes continued as normal.

Students reported to Betz staff members during lunchtime that a student had a gun, said Amanda Oliver, a spokeswoman for Bellevue Public Schools. Principal Jacci Lucas sent a letter home to parents that said “district disciplinary procedures were followed, and no students were in danger.”

The school contacted the Bellevue Police Department. Officers came to the school at 605 W. 27th Ave. as a precaution, which happens whenever someone is suspected of having a firearm at a school.
