A few folks dropped by to ask that Medicaid be expanded.
Meanwhile, some Republican reps decided they didn't want to meet with their constituents to discuss health care for the poor.
Here is the photo of the license plates of Missouri Representatives who fled the capital today to avoid the people! Over 1,000 people showed up to rally for Medicaid expansion the current majority is denying Missouri. Thank you to Progress Missouri for photo. Complete list of them below.

(9,141 posts)The lies about Obamacare that I get in the mail from these guys is ludicrous. The clearly assume MO voters are ignorant and will accept their misinformation as truth. Elijah has no idea what he's talking about but just angers his crowds to blame the 'other guys' constantly with big bucks to back him compared to opponents. Let's not forget ALEC funding goes to repubs. MO used to be solidly democratic before being dominated by the religious right idiocy and greedy selfish corporatists.
Maybe the common man in MO will come to their senses and see how repubs are ruining this state and stop voting against their interests.

(12,448 posts)highlighting the incredible works done by the WPA in every single state might be an effective way to sell more of the same. Those murals and hundreds more, works that began the careers of many later-to-be-world famous artists and writers, capital improvements and infrastructure, manufacturing facilities, and so on. We have a couple of little examples here in Nevada as well...

(769 posts)Are the most coward politicians and chose not to talk with people who can't afford to pay them for the meeting. They have prioritize the lobbyist's money machine over regular Americans. Missourians have the choice right now for the very next election, elect the Republicans and obstruction continues or Democrats who are willing to change and meet with the regular people or the real change to have entire Independents control the legislative?
Independents are probably the best way to go.

I live in Missouri. Both of my parents died within the past 5 years. When they eventually had to be place in a nursing home, they were completely broke, and needed Medicare/Medicaid to survive. They didn't last long once inside a nursing home. Without these two valuable services, I don't know what would have happened to them. I would, for sure, be broke myself if I had to pay for the overpriced nursing homes. You get very little for the money.
Between the two of them they payed hundreds of thousands in taxes to obtain these services and I see no reason why they should not have used these services. Many of the current seniors are in the same/similar situation. Yet we want to cut these services? Why? Many of the children of seniors will be faced with this identical situation in the future. So be prepared. Fight for what is rightfully theirs.

(149 posts)I think many people would be shocked at how many seniors run out of money and have to go on Medicaid. They go in a nursing home and their money runs out. Then they have to transfer to a place that will take Medicaid. It's sad but true. They've out lived their money and am sure they didn't expect that would happen. People need to think about this because it's surely going to happen too many of us in some way or another. Like you said they paid in to the system and should certainly be able to use it if the need arises. Thanks for sharing your experience.

(3,544 posts)I'm guessing 80% of baby boomers will face this same situation. So their kids will be faced with the same situation. My father retired early at 58, with well over a million dollars. Within 15 years it was all gone. Did he piss it away? Not really. Did he live a good life during those 15 years. I would say above average, but not extravagant. Hey, that's what the retirement years are all about. Live off of the income you've saved. Have a good time. He retired in 1985. Here we are 23 years later. Everything has gone up in price. I'm hoping to retire within the next 5-7 years. Do I have over a million dollars saved. Hell no. Does anyone, anymore? There's hardly any organizations with a pension anymore. 401K monies were robbed several years back. So what do we do? The best we can with what we've got. My guess is a lot of us will end up just like my mom and dad. My advice: Live within your means and have a good time while you're still here.
Oh, and fight for your rights!!!! Because the GOP is out to destroy America and all it stands for.
