I've always wondered ... if we gave the children of the world a week to rule the planet, what they would fix first. I think "No more hurting people" would be it and everything else would follow. The hope of this beautiful child destroyed by plain evil ... it's just too awful.

to remember my Buddhist teachings when faced with this sort of tragedy!! So hard not to want revenge!! I just can't help hoping that there is a special place in hell for someone who would commit such acts!!

I had just said something very hurtful to my sister that really wounded her. I always had the ability to know exactly what would hurt people the most for some reason. I don't know why I could 'see' those things in people. I felt so bad about how deeply I hurt my sister that I actually made a conscious choice not to do that again to anyone. I fell short a few times but each time I made that choice again. I've spent most of my life being deliberately kind. Many people who know me have noticed it too.

It takes work but it can be done. I still have that ability to know how to hurt people and sometimes I indulge my imagination and re-enact it all in my mind to get some form of inner satisfaction, and it can be agonizing not to retaliate at times, but I've managed mostly not to 'get even' or be vengeful. I'm living proof that life is all about the choices we make during every moment.

Lord knows, I can want to hurt people. I am subject to all the fears and anger and feelings of being wronged that everyone is. But I am actively trying. Every day I am actively trying.

Be well, lunatica. Keep trying.
