Obama Proposal To Sell TVA Blasted By Republicans

WASHINGTON -- In a political role reversal, Republicans are blasting President Barack Obama's plan to consider selling the Tennessee Valley Authority, an icon of the New Deal long targeted by conservatives as an example of government overreach.

Obama's 2014 budget proposal calls for a strategic review of the TVA, the nation's largest public utility with 9 million customers in seven states from Virginia to Mississippi.

Selling the U.S-owned power company could reduce the federal deficit by at least $25 billion and "help put the nation on a sustainable fiscal path," Obama says in a budget document.

1. A sustainable path? privatization?

I don't think so. Privatization means that the facility will be run badly and cost more. It's the foundation of the neo-con religion, and it's the dumbest thing to do. I have lost a whole lot of respect for Obama, and am glad that this is his last term. Policies like this can do a lot of damage in four years, however.

Selling the TVA to private corps is a horrific proposal and somehow it will now be defended by some Dems because if Obama likes it and the repubs don't it must be a good idea.

I won't lie, though, it is funny to see the Repubs quoted in the article admitting that this won't lead to lower prices etc.
