Of course, this happens every f*cking day in Dubya's Wasteland

"The world is better off without Saddam Hussein". Maybe if you live in Crawford, if you live in Baghdad it's a hellhole. Legs blown off? Childless parents? Parentless kids? Every. Fucking. Day. Since the nation is in kind of an indignant mood, maybe we could channel some of that into considering war crimes for the Ex-Brat in Chief. Or not.

"Deadly wave of bombings across Iraq ahead of elections

Baghdad (CNN) -- A series of bomb blasts across Iraq on Monday killed at least 42 people and wounded more than 257 others, police said.

The attacks took place in at least six provinces: Baghdad, Anbar, Babel, Kirkuk, Salaheddin Diyala, and Nasriya, police officials across the country told CNN.

Two of the bombs exploded at a checkpoint near Baghdad's international airport."

Suicide Bombs in Iraq Have Killed 12,000 Civilians, Study Says
By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT
Published: September 2, 2011

BAGHDAD — While sophisticated roadside bombs have taken a heavy toll on American troops over the course of the war here, suicide bombings have largely been a hallmark of sectarian warfare. Independent researchers have now tried to quantify their damage, poring through data compiled from death reports to conclude that more than 12,000 Iraqis have been killed in at least 1,000 suicide attacks since the American-led invasion.

Of 1,840 incidents in the past 25 years, more than 86 percent have occurred since 2001, and the highest annual numbers have occurred in the past four years. The sources who provided the data to The Washington Post asked that they not be identified because of the sensitivity of the tallies.

Since 2001, a Dramatic Increase in Suicide Bombings
By Robin Wright,April 18, 2008
Suicide bombers conducted 658 attacks around the world last year, including 542 in U.S.-occupied Afghanistan and Iraq, according to data compiled by U.S. government experts.

The large number of attacks -- more than double the number in any of the past 25 years -- reflects a trend that has surprised and worried U.S. intelligence and military analysts.

More than four-fifths of the suicide bombings over that period have occurred in the past seven years, the data show. The bombings have spread to dozens of countries on five continents, killed more than 21,350 people and injured about 50,000 since 1983, when a landmark attack blew up the U.S. Embassy in Beirut.

Today is the 25-year anniversary of that attack, the first of a series of large suicide bombings targeting Americans overseas.
