News from Boston will become clearer and clearer,

as time passes. Throughout the night, people were helping the wounded, searching through debris, collecting evidence and working to figure out the details. Immediately after the bombings, news was unreliable. Casualty counts changed depending on which news source you were following. The number of dead and injured kept fluctuating. Theories and hypothetical musings were bandied about, over and over again, usually from people who have no more factual information than the rest of us.

This morning, we still do not know who planted those bombs, and we may not know for some time. We do know more about casualties, and we're starting to get information about the search for those responsible. There are still people collecting and analyzing evidence and trying to work out the exact nature of the bombs. Those are important clues, and those doing the investigation are good at what they do. We'll know more later on that, and that information may lead to finding the perpetrator(s).

In the meantime, more casualties will report in to local hospitals - those who are experiencing delayed symptoms of concussions and other non-visible injuries. In the hospitals, the injured are slowly recovering, and the ones in critical condition are being monitored continuously, and further treatments are being planned.

Whoever did this is likely staying out of sight, but will eventually emerge, and may even tell someone what he or she did. There may even be bragging about it. Like all creepy assholes, that person will have enemies and people who dislike him or her. Someone may well report something. Videos from security and other cameras are being analyzed, and more and more people who were there on the scene are watching the videos and images captured on their cell phones and cameras, over and over again, looking for something out of the ordinary. Those people will be sending those videos to the authorities, who will examine them, too.

We'll continue to hear theories about what happened from a wide range of people who were not there, and who have no idea what they're talking about. Ignoring those people is a great idea. Repeating unsupported theories on the internet isn't such a great idea, and just adds to the confusion.

At some point, though, today, tomorrow, or a week or month from now, there will be announcements about this tragedy that will get us all closer to the truth. They won't come from the conspiracy theorists or pundits. They'll come from those who are quietly examining all of the evidence and narrowing in on exactly what happened. We should listen for this real information, and let all of the talkers who weren't there and who are simply spouting whatever enters their minds talk to themselves.

This will be solved. There were too many witnesses, too many cameras, and too much evidence from the actual explosions for an answer not to be found. We'll find out. Until then, I'll be doing other things.

We will find out the truth. Wait for it. It will come.

The truth wasn't there, or was buried by all of those people who get paid to talk in front of a camera, whether they know anything or not. They talk because they must, so every theory and wild-assed idea gets air time. I don't watch that stuff during situations like this. It's a total waste of time. If there's a good local news outlet covering the story, especially a newspaper, I follow the story there. They think before speaking or writing. They are journalists, unlike those who are paid to talk continuously.

I didn't even mention DU. I don't care what people write on DU about this. I simply recognize it for what it is. Mostly, I don't enter the threads.

It was a parking ticket after all that finally got Son of Sam in the 70s.

and it is also why I am not a believer in any of the conspiracy theories.
Because people talk. People snap pictures (even old polaroids back then.) People take movies/slides/videos.

People talk.

All criminals have one trait, be it professional or otherwise
They have egos and brag about it to someone

They cannot keep quiet.

To have a conspiracy requires so many people it would be impossible.

On a different scale the Brooks Bros. riot stopping the recount in 2000 - all those professional rioteeers bragged about it, became famous(infamous) and used it on their resume.

They couldn't shut up.

Conspiracy theories cannot happen long as people have big mouths and egos.
And there are far too many people needed to make a big conspiracy theory feasible.
No way they would all keep quiet.

The closest analogous crime was the Atlanta Olympics bombing which took years to solve. But things have changed greatly in the nearly 20 years since then. Hundreds, if not thousands of high resolution cameras were at the event, many of which were shooting video. They already believe they have images of the bombs being placed. As they receive more data from spectators they will track the suspects motions forward and backward in time, matching the imagery from one to another. It is just a matter of time before they get a clear image of the suspect's face or other identifying information. It may be easy to attack an open society such as ours, but I believe the criminal will find it much harder to hide their identity than they assumed. It will just take some time for the analysts to do their job.

with 24-hour news cycles to fill are happy to supply them, even when they're just blowing hot air and repeating what they said 10 minutes ago. They round up the same old "experts" who really have nothing to say because nobody knows anything, but we are treated to all manner of wisdom from the usual suspects and we still know nothing.

There is nothing to do but wait. We can speculate, of course, but maybe we shouldn't become too invested in the results of our speculation - like the Fauxbots and assorted haters who are absolutely certain this was the work of "jihadists." Apparently they've forgotten about the OKC bombing, where everybody was sure it was middle eastern terrorists, at least for about 3 days until the cops picked up McVeigh. I suppose it could be that crowd, but I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if this turns out to be a home-grown job. But still, I don't want to become too invested in that theory, either; anyhow, speculation is pointless right now. The FBI is good at what it does and they and other agencies will eventually find and arrest whoever is responsible. And I hope that will be soon so the talking heads can shut up. Chris Matthews in particular was unwatchable yesterday (yes, he always is, but he was even worse than usual. So off went my teevee and on came the Internets).
