Carlos Arredondo

At the Boston Marathon today after helping the victims:

Carlos's wife Melida posted this on her Facebook page:

Boston Marathon Update - This is Melida. I was in the bleachers with other families of those killed when during their Military Service. We all were facing the area that was bombed. Then the bombs went off a bit before 3 pm. We were at top of bleachers when bombs went off and all crouched down after. Carlos was waiting for runner who was running for Alex was at finish line. I saw the glass come down, plate glass windows, long shards coming down on spectators north side of Boylston Street. As I was trying to depart bleachers, the second bomb went off what seemed to be 25 yards to the west. What was orderly turned crazy on the bleachers, which were pretty full. I finally got off the bleachers and headed towards Trinity church. I saw many injured being helped by many people. There was blood and injured. I got to the other end of Boston Public library corner of huntington and copley facing the Westin. I stood on the stone benches for about 15 minutes when Carlos Arredondo found me. He was bloody due to helping the injured. See picture. I must say that I am very shaking and having a hard time thinking well. Carlos was left the area. Heading home soon. — with Carlos Arredondo.

One of the responders in the photograph—the man in the cowboy hat—has been identified as Carlos Arredondo, a Costa Rican immigrant whose Marine son died in action in Iraq in 2004. The day he learned of his son's death, Arrendo locked himself in a van with five gallons of gasoline and a propane torch and set the van on fire. He survived, became a peace activist, and was among the spectators who rushed toward the fumes after the explosion today. After tying a tourniquet onto the young man's legs and wheeling him past the finish line to emergency help, Arredondo, seen badly shaken and trembling in this video, gripping a small American flag drenched in blood, talks to some bystanders on the street about the explosion:

will it ever end? I'm so sick of all of the horrendous violence and killing that seems to be happening all over the world. It seems to be happening more often lately than it used to. Maybe, I am just more aware now than I used to be in years past.

That poor father, to go through all he has been through and then to have such a big heart to try to help others. He is a good example of the best of humanity.

Brave, BRAVE souls, they are . . . a five-on-one beating of a man who lost his son in Bewsh's war of choice. What character. And how awesome are DC's Finest, who appear to be talking to the laughing assailants and not even remotely taking a five-on-one assault seriously??

Is every one that has any kind of power in this country a fucking right wing ding or is it just me?
