Promoted to CEO, McDonald's Thompson saw pay more than triple

McDonald's CEO Don Thompson saw total compensation more than triple to $13.75 million, according to a company filing Friday. He was promoted to global CEO of the fast-food giant in July.

Thompson's bump included a $979,000 base salary and more than $10 million in various bonuses. His annual base salary will be $1.1 million as CEO.

Retiring CEO Jim Skinner's total compensation more than tripled, to $27.7 million, due in large part to a $10 million cash payment.
