To catch a train home after a day trip.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the crowds were unusually heavy.
Every time I walk near Times Square, I assume that a bomb will go off. My wife thinks the same thing.

I had never heard of this tactic but then we watched and sure enough, the monster removed his "head" and asked a couple of tourists for money. It's a living I guess!

It just seems like a prime spot for a McVeigh style van attack to happen.

(49,445 posts)They have metal detectors at the gate; I had to give up my Swiss army knife. They checked for weapons, but they did not touch the juice boxes or sealed boxes of snack crackers. That Jingos box could easily have contained a small bomb.
There was a long line waiting to get to the detectors, a crowd going through the detectors, and a tightly-packed crowd in the mouse maze to the ticket sellers. Targets, all of them.
I took the Metro-North train. Confined environment, full of people. I took it to Grand Central Station. Also a confined environment, full of people.

(51,122 posts)We spent the day beforehand hiking from Penn Station to the Brooklyn Bridge and across.
The bridge was packed with people, as usual on a pretty day.
Lots of soft targets indeed.
