This!

Patton Oswalt (Comedian)

https://www.facebook.com/pattonoswalt/posts/10151440800582655

Boston. Fucking horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

I volunteered medical assistance. I waited at St. Anthony hospital with HUNDREDS of other volunteers. It turned out they already had multiple times the help they needed.

where in the face of undeniable odds, they marched forward, wave on wave to finally defeat the enemy in WW2.
Where those courageous people got the nerve to do such I shall never know.

That is the credo of the First responders daily. They go where is needed, never letting danger stop them.

when they saw the explosion. And they are probably trained to know the danger in that, because in the case of roadside IEDs they sometimes have second explosions designed to kill first responders after the first bomb goes off. Then according to the person on MSNBC, after helping the bloody victims, they ran to the hospital to give blood.

I noticed the same thing and was equally impressed. Not only first responders, but just ordinary people doing what they could under trying and dangerous circumstances. I couldn't help but wonder what I'd do. I'd like to think I'd be one of those running toward instead of away.

29. We Are Human, And Everything That Entails
Tue Apr 16, 2013, 10:03 AM

We reach for the stars and we slaughter the innocent.

But I also agree that the moral arc of the universe bends towards justice and that progress is inevitable.

But there will always be the struggle, the human struggle between those natures that are noble and those that are base, and that will never end, as long as there are humans.

My thanks to the heroes.

We, as a society, have got to become better at remembering the names of the victims and the heroes, and forgetting the names of the perpetrators.
