What does it look and sound like when a hellfire missile strike?

I'm horrified at the images I've seen of Boston. And the sounds, the screaming. And the sight of blood on the ground.

I wonder what it would look like if we ever had footage of one of our very frequent drone strikes. Do Pakistanis scream?

When it is us doing the killing? Well it is not really terrible or news worthy.

We call it collateral damage and ask Yemen to cover it up.

Maybe if we had the same shock and horror and sympathy when others die we might actually try to get our government to stop.

But those threads sink because they are brown kids a world away.

when it is someone else other than our people here getting killed.

We look for ways to stop things, get outraged over them, all the while we ourselves are doing these things in other countries. A very ameri-centric view on matters.

be outraged about this bombing HERE today.

People always are more concerned about their own community than somebody's far away. It's not just human nature, it's probably typical of all higher mammals and maybe even most life forms with some cognition.

Someone's going to complain about this, and a jury will likely find it inappropriate.

that have consequences. Even if this attack is not connected directly with our drone strikes, there is clear a connection with all the war mongering this country has been doing in recent decades. We have defined a new standard, and we should not be surprised when others step up to that same standard.

If a bit low-powered (the ones we saw would have knocked down all of the runners and responders from the concussion immediately).

A hellfire missile would have flattened the BPL and broken every window between Copley and Kenmore.

Living Under Drones: Death, Injury and Trauma to Civilians from US Drone Practices in Pakistan
http://livingunderdrones.org/report/

Sadaullah Wazir, teenager, former student from the village of Machi Khel in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, was severely injured in a September 2009 drone strike on his grandfather’s home.(1) Sadaullah has filed a complaint before the UN Human Rights Council.(2)

“Before the drone strikes started, my life was very good. I used to go to school and I used to be quite busy with that, but after the drone strikes, I stopped going to school now. I was happy because I thought I would become a doctor.” Sadaullah recalled, “Two missiles (were) fired at our hujra and three people died. My cousin and I were injured. We didn’t hear the missile at all and then it was there.” He further explained, “(The last thing I remembered was that) we had just broken our fast where we had eaten and just prayed. . . .We were having tea and just eating a bit and then there were missiles. . . . When I gained consciousness, there was a bandage on my eye. I didn’t know what had happened to my eye and I could only see from one.” Sadaullah lost both of his legs and one of his eyes in the attack. He informed us, “Before (the strike), my life was normal and very good because I could go anywhere and do anything. But now I am not able to do that because I have to stay inside. . . . Sometimes I have really bad headaches. . . . (and) if I walk too much (on my prosthetic legs), my legs hurt a lot. (Drones have) drastically affected life (in our area).”

Looks like the OP is sad for both the people in Boston and the people in Pakistan. Seems to me viewing all life as important is the correct response. It is just not the response DU often is able to muster.

The story got a few comments on here, but most people just ignored it. Not to mention most of the comments were actually U.S centeric too and didn't even mention the victims. I get why, but it's still a bit fucked up. I'm just a guilty too, btw.

It is not pleasant,
and I understand is some would prefer to Look the Other Way,
but the question is valid and pertinent.
What is the sound of People being Blown Apart,
and how is it different when the explosives have OUR name on them,
and the bodies are brown people who live far away?

Thanks for bringing this reality home.

I can't see the videos because i'm at work, I'll watch when i get home.

I actually did look to answer my own question, all I could find was very high-level views, like from the drones themselves. Do your videos show what happens on the ground?
