whether it's deliberate terrorism or just some kind of weird accident, it's a horrible thing, and my thoughts are with everyone in Boston.

explosions occurred as runners passing the site of explosion.

edit: correct that winners had cross the line couple hours earlier, 'amateurs' were continuing.

Appears correct that many injured, and response immediate as emergency personnel along the route to attend to Marathon.

and the force of the explosion was straight up, not laterally.

I'm still thinking it's electrical in nature, probably in the DC power system that Boston still has to run ancient elevators and the modern subway.

ETA: they just said the injured went to Mass. General. That's good news. If the injuries had been massive, they'd have gone to the Level I trauma center at Boston City.

tho I did see a runner tumble as s/he passed and the explosion hit. I/we/all HOPE you're correct re: electrical.
