Anyone have any updates about South Africa?

I was following the events of post apartheid South Africa for
several years after the ANC took the reigns of Government.
To be quite honest, I became depressed and disillusioned
by the news and stopped following. The last I had heared,
(ten years ago) was that it was in absolute turmoil, intellectuals and professionals leaving in droves, starvation, rapes, murders. I hope all that has changed. Has anyone been there lately?
