Since there will be no budget, what's the end-game?

More continuing resolutions, or are the Republicans expected to shut down the government this time?

It occured to me after posting that "end game" is one of those chess terms in our language that are used without even recognizing it as a chess term. I wasn't thinking of chess when posting. But for the curious, chess games are divided into three loosly defined stages. The opening is mostly about deploying pieces. The middle game is battle for advantage as pieces are traded off. The end game is when both sides are reduced to king and pawns, and maybe a piece or two, where the prospect of a pawn queening becomes the heart of the contest.

Thankfully, I think that the GOP *leaders* are losing the nerve for all of the brinksmanship that they've been doing since 2011 but if the base screams loudly enough, who knows?
