George W. Bush: 'People Are Surprised I Can Even Read'

George W. Bush: 'People Are Surprised I Can Even Read'
TALKS ABOUT HIS PAINTINGS IN NEW INTERVIEW

(NEWSER) – George W. Bush took up painting after leaving the presidency, and now he's offered the Dallas Morning News a look at some of his work—specifically, paintings of two of his dogs, plus two paintings of his ranch. "People are surprised" by the new hobby, he says, adding, "Of course, some people are surprised I can even read." But that's OK, because he takes "great delight in busting stereotypes," he says. Why painting? "It’s a way to create," Bush says. "I enjoy creating. … You can express yourself in a way that’s unique." The tidbit comes as part of a longer interview in advance of his presidential center opening. (In other W news, he's a new grandpa.)

The question is, does he? And the coloring books don't count, although I'm sure they were good practice for painting puppies.

than he has created. Maybe he feels painting is a way to assuage his guilty conscience / create something to reduce the imbalance?

Carter has worked all over the world to help people
Reagan hid within himself
Bush 1 went on a real estate binge
Clinton has gone to the world to help find solutions
Bush 2 stays home

What can we learn about the differences between the republicans and Democrats?

It's actually bewildering that angry mobs of Americans haven't caused him to flee the country by now.
