(36,437 posts)Love the new name for Them: Unwavering Apologists! Ahahahahaha! That's Awesome! Somebody on Team Awesome suggested Professional Obama Defenders (POD People, get it???? Ahahahaha!), but I think maybe Unwavering Apologists should definitely be the name we call Those People! And look at the funny suit with the A for Apologist on it! Awesome! We should make the Unwavering Apologists wear an A for Apologist here: or better, a UA for Unwavering Apologists. Not to be confused with TA for Team Awesome!!!!

(24,461 posts). . . the most average writers on the planet with the grandest self-importance.
People pay attention to Thomas Friedman and buy his unintentionally hilarious books. Our corporate run media love to have him on and allows him to spew, unopposed or challenged, the opinions and musings of a regular multi-millionaire Average Joe (who pretty much got to where he is via lucky breaks, marriage and other opportune moments) in regards to what American workers need to do to change their situations.
In case you want a sentence summary of those musings: "It's all your fault, you need to get smarter, people being lifted out of poverty overseas is great even if it means job losses here, and it's either this or North Korea/Communism."
Oh, and Thomas doesn't at ALL like to be challenged. Check out the New Zealand interview down this thread. A little long of a listen, but it's well worth it to see how to completely expose a corporate toady who has nothing but flimsy arguments that dismiss SO many intangibles:

(47,803 posts)David brooks is great at saying "Calm down. Nothing needs to change" in a way that seems thoughtful and reasonable while he insults anyone who holds a different view as latte drinking airheads.
And Friedman is great at making status-quo conventional wisdom sound like it is some genius insight that he just came up with and is imparting to us mere mortals.

(39,405 posts)Neither of Friedman's scenarios happened in reality and oil hovers around $100 a barrel now.
Oddly, Pat Robertson repeated pretty much the exact same line. Maybe it was to bait people too smart to buy the WMD and terrorist crap, but not quite smart enough to wonder why an administration wholly owned by the oil industry would fight a war to LOWER the price of oil.

It's an amazing takedown (listen to Tommy Mustache squeal when he's called on his wealth) and a perfect example of how ridiculously uncaring and shilling our corporate-owned media really is.

(3,190 posts)They're an integral part of the game of prostituting for the next $$$ and could care less if the rest of us get shat upon or barely have a pot to piss in (or are heading in that direction).
I continually wonder what the engame is that they and the rest of the upper-crust 1% really want. Do they really want a country/world where a single-digit percentage of the population has everything and the rest live in squalor? Sounds like a depressing scenario that a lot of third-world countries I can think of exist with.
Do they really want that?

(39,405 posts)Obama spewed the corporate DLC line all along, but we HOPED he'd CHANGE, first when he got elected, then when he got REELECTED.
If he didn't push for a truly progressive agenda when he had both chambers of Congress, there's no reason to expect it now.

(39,909 posts)I don't think so.
Not in Campaign 2008 where Candidate Obama promised to:
*renegotiate NAFTA
*Make EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act) The Law of the Land
*Put on Comfortable Shoes and Walk the Line with Union strikers
*Raise Taxes on the RICH
*Require GMO warnings and Country of Origin Labels on all food sold in the USA
*Raise the Cap on FICA Deductions
He definitely sold himself as a Anti-Free Trade, Warrior for the Working Class,
and sold himself as the Anti-Clinton,
even making statements denying any ties to the DLC.
He made them take his name OFF their website.
....but I guess he was only "Bluffing" then too.
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their promises or excuses.

(31,493 posts)Yep that will be next. I mean how far can you bend over ...and for what? It's the elderly who will be doing the bending over for this fucked up cpi shit. I don't hate Obama but I don't like that fact that he is like all the others who say one thing during a campaign and then go back on what they said ...and far worse than that. No REAL Democrat would ever bring up an idea to change SS in any way that would make it worse for people ...and no REAL DU Democrat would support Obama's bringing SS cuts to the table. It's not part of the debt. Fucking reframers!

(5,275 posts)Tom Tomorrow is brilliant x1000. The firm apologists just won't budge, Obama has a core of supporters that would stick with him no matter what, who can rationalize anything he does or says as he protects the plutocracy and asks the struggling to sacrifice. God forbid some multi millionaire would have to get by with 311 million rather than 347 million, better that Granny learns to like cat food.
Nice that he also took a nice shot at Friedman and Brooks and their word salad gobbledygook.

(1,309 posts)to show what a democrat stands for. It is in ours. Call every democratic congressman and legislator you know and tell them they will be primaried if they support chained CPI. Are we going to just sit here silent. Not me. It is up to us to show who we are as democrats. We have to quit whining and keep organizing.
dreamnightwind
(4,775 posts)"It is not in Obama's hands to show what a democrat stands for."
And it's not whining to call him on it. I'm all for organizing, though, let's get some real Dems elected! Primaries are our greatest point of leverage.
