Inmates at the Guantanamo Bay prison have clashed with guards during an attempt to end a two-month long hunger strike there. Officers tried to forcibly remove detainees from communal living quarters and isolate them in individual cells. Non-lethal rounds were fired at the prisoners as they resisted with improvised weapons.
Cindy Panuco, a lawyer for one of the detainees, told RT.
Well, its interesting to find out that they have makeshift weapons. Whenever we have gone down to visit our clients, the only things that they are allowed is small ballpoint inserts of a pen. Theyre plastic, little, almost like straws with ink at the end of them. Thats pretty much all theyre allowed, so I dont see, especially given the evasive searches that were conducted in February, what kind of makeshift weapons the government is referring to. Thats still to be determined, especially since theres no way they could have any sort of weapons, she argued.
Panuco believes the purpose of the transfer was in fact to break the prisoners will to continue carrying out the hunger strike.
If theyre together, if theyre in communal living space, they can communicate and at least support each other. And now that theyre being isolated, its another form of torment.

Then they torture them and keep them in inhumane conditions; they now force feed them and now this - shut Gitmo and let these people go.
