(82,383 posts)might not go to war there as there's no oil.
Halliburton needs to make $$ though. Maybe they would find it necessary to "bring Democracy" to NK. OTOH, even they couldn't get away from the fact NK may have some nukes, and that makes it dangerous, unlike Iraq, which did not have them, which they knew.

(18,807 posts)Nobody's going into North Korea unless they send troops across the border on a large scale or shell Seoul first, and I'm still skeptical as to whether North Korea even now is batshit insane enough to try either of those.

(10,857 posts)Cheney's policy was to give the North Koreans whatever they wanted so we could fight two other Vietnams.
As cynical as the above is, note that Cheney would have been fully aware of the little-known Second Korean War of 1966-69, which was a sympathy war-let dusted up by Kim Il Sung in part to keep American and South Korean troops tied up there instead of being sent to Vietnam.
Things probably wouldn't have come to this point under a Bush dictatorship because they would have happily given the North Koreans whatever they wanted through back channels in order to continue pursuing Bush's other wars.
President Obama, however, seems to be more willing to enforce sanctions and advance the diplomatic ball.
