Port Canaveral police sergeant fired

A Port Canaveral police officer is out of a job after bringing pictures of Trayvon Martin to a gun range and offering to let officers use them as target practice.

Interim CEO John Walsh said he would like to apologize to Trayvon Martin’s family for the alleged behavior.

Walsh said it happened at the Sheriff's Farm gun range, near Interstate 95 in Cocoa on April 4.

King was leading a target practice with two other Port Canaveral police pfficers and another civilian port employee, according to Walsh.

Walsh said King brought out the targets with a picture resembling Trayvon Martin and asked the other officers if they wanted to use the picture for target practice.

I hope that asshole never works in law enforcement ever again.

Statement from the attorney of Trayvon's family..

“It is absolutely reprehensible that a high-ranking member of the Port Canaveral Police, sworn to protect and serve Floridians, would use the image of a dead child as target practice. Such a deliberate and depraved indifference to this grieving family is unacceptable. The citizens of Port Canaveral deserve better.”

- Well I surely hope no one does anything untoward with his picture spread out all over the internets. You know, like Photoshopping a KKK uniform on him, or being disdained by Grumpy Cat®©, or like that. You know? That wouldn't be right, would it? Noooo.

It's surprising to me that nobody agreed to use the target, that someone reported it, and that the department took action instead of doing the traditional handslap.

And at the same time, I'm discouraged that I find it surprising that the other people involved did the right thing.

These stories always leave me asking why everybody else seems to cover up for the 'bad apples'. For once, that wasn't the case.
