Maher on the US being in so many wars: The US needs to “look in the mirror and say, maybe it’s me”

Bill Maher Slams ‘Warmongers’ Itching To Go To War With North Korea: We Need To Start Defining ‘Peace As Strength’
by Josh Feldman | 11:29 pm, April 12th, 2013

Bill Maher closed out his show tonight with a New Rule railing against the U.S. military-industrial complex for being so eager for a possible war with North Korea. Maher mocked the Korean leader as “Kim Jong Pugsley” and said he’s not really worried about North Korea targeting the U.S., but the war-hungry masses just itching to get into another war are a problem. Maher said that the U.S. has been at war for an insanely long percentage of its existence, and that it’s time to start defining “peace as strength.”

Maher said that people are just looking for “any excuse to ramp up the war machine again,” because if the United States ever ends up not being involved in any war anywhere in the world, the country may start thinking about things like poverty and infrastructure, and “that’s no fucking fun.”

Maher likened going to war with the United States to getting drunk with Lindsay Lohan: we’re already in the car, so let’s go! Maher rattled off a list of wars the U.S. has been in just in the last few decades, acknowledging that while some of them were necessary, the U.S. needs to “look in the mirror and say, ‘maybe it’s me.’” He said that the war-hungry mentality needs to be replaced with promoting the idea of “peace as strength.”

Maher nails it again.

I just said something similar the other night. We are running out of wars. Without wars, attention turns to what is happening here. Without wars, it is difficult to justify our bloated defense budget.

And here we sit in judgment of the rest of the world, when we are a highly militaristic and violent society.

We have treaty obligations to protect Japan and South Korea. If North Korea attacks them, we are at war whether we like it or not.

The enemies of your friends typically become your enemies as well. That's just the reality of international relations. Been that way since the dawn of civilization.

Unnecessary wars like Iraq are the problem.

is not only the first option, it is the only viable option if the Halliburtons of the world are to make a killing off war. Junior articulated the new American century (PNAC) during an address at West Point, and viola, its implementation was met with wild enthusiasm by the MSM, perpetual war was commenced, you were either with us or you were agin' us, the Constitution was gutted with passage of the so-called 'The Patriot Act,' protesters were herded into 'free speech zones,' and here we are with little to show for it except death, destruction, carnage, and countless trillions of dollars of additional debt: the rest is history for what you see is what you have gotten.
