General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe no longer have any real rights, only privileges at the whim of our corporate overlords.
And we never know how or when said privileges will be revoked;
they could ALL be revoked literally in the twinkling of an eye, (like
how suddenly 911 happened) ... or gradually as needed, modulated
so the whole enchelada doesn't blow up in the 1%'s face .. like was
starting to happen with Occupy Wall St..
Just sayin'. Happy Trails .. It's been nice to know you.
Peace out.

(2,770 posts)"our corporate overlords", I immediately realize I am dealing with someone who sees him/herself as a persecuted victim, and actually enjoys seeing themselves as such.

(19,326 posts)to describe the slimy filthy-rich greedy cowardly assholes
who hate democracy so much that they have pulled out all
the stops to literally "buy" the country's political system lock,
stock & barrel, so as to continue doing their greedy bidding
at everyone else's expense, having paid-off their hired
"consensus fixers" & taken over our nation from "behind their
curtain" of illusion and glitter?
Do you prefer "The 1%"? or does that offend you delicate
sensitivities as well?

(2,770 posts)'delicate' or otherwise, have nothing to do with it.
I recognize that there are those who do everything in their power to subvert democracy as it should be for their own personal gain.
I also recognize that there are those who do everything in their power to stop the aforesaid.
The minute you label yourself as a helpless victim, you become one.

(82,383 posts)The right to run for office? The right to freedom of speech and religion? The right to own weapons? How about the 4th, 5th and 6th amendments?

(19,326 posts)Just ask the Occupy peeps about that one.
... or try googling "NDAA, indefinite detention,
constitutional rights".
Summer Hathaway
(2,770 posts)doesn't make it a reality.
Which "Occupy peeps" should we ask? The ones who were going to come back bigger and stronger than ever LAST spring, who never did? Or the ones who were going to take Philly by storm with their show of strength at their first national meet-up last July 4th - all two hundred of them who were motivated enough to actually show up?
99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)and am I supposed to take this seriously?

(2,770 posts)The folks who showed up for their much-touted "NatGat" last July, and then complained that they had no access to water - in the middle of downtown Philadelphia?
Yes, the movement that was going to take over the world couldn't figure out how to get water in the downtown area of a major US city. All two hundred of them.

(45,319 posts)From this week's Eugene Weekly's cover story 'Occupy Medical-What free universal health care looks like'
"What do you do if you are homeless, uninsured or just plain broke and youre sick? Where do you go if you do have a home but the waiting list is too long at the clinic or your insurance isnt good enough to get you the care you need?
On Sundays from noon until 4 pm you can walk up to the former bloodmobile painted red and white and emblazoned Occupy Medical Mobile Clinic, thats parked downtown at the Park Blocks and get anything from a Band-Aid to a prescription for heart medicine. You can also get food, a haircut and proof that someone cares."

(3,413 posts)Nonviolent Noncooperation, as was taught to us by Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. I would add one further point: Nonparticipation. Shop somewhere other than Walmart, Krogers, Home Depot, etc. Prepare your meals instead of relying on the drive-through. Starve the beast.

(1,831 posts)That a substantial segment of the population will not roll over for those pricks.
Yes I realize that they have superior technology.
But HUGE sacrifices were made to give us what we have today. Not just materially. Many of us will again make sacrifices to preserve, or at least protest to the nth degree, the standards and ideals for which America once stood.

(19,326 posts)Or a "last gasp" of a swimmer who's come up from drowning
three times, but who is now going down for the last time.
OWS actually was a "protest to the nth degree" wasn't it?
What else was to be done? What more can "we" do, to
"protest"?
I think many are stuck in denial about this, which is why
I keep harping on it. I'm as vulnerable as the next guy to
doing this very thing, so I know.
