This is the abortion restriction that will reach the SCOTUS
Personhood, heartbeat legislation? Very unlikely that these cases will be heard by SCOTUS. They'll be knocked down in Federal Court.
However regulations requiring clinics to adhere to prohibitively expensive rules that require them to meet hospital physical plant standards and regulations demanding that all docs practicing at clinics have admitting privileges (which no hospital will give them)? Yeah, one of these cases will likely make it to the SC and has a fairly good chance of winning.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Abortion-rights supporters are making one final attempt to derail strict new regulations that they claim would force most of Virginia's 20 abortion clinics to close.
The Virginia Board of Health is scheduled to take a final vote on the regulations Friday after another round of public comment. A large group of abortion-rights activists is expected to urge the board to reject the regulations, which would require new and existing clinics to meet strict new-hospital construction standards.
Critics say the regulations are intended to put clinics out of business by requiring renovations that they cannot afford. Supporters of the regulations say the aim is to protect women's health.
The board already has given preliminary approval to the regulations, which took effect on an emergency basis on Jan. 1, 2012.

(22,336 posts)to force them to delay getting an abortion until they can get to another state, or to force them to try to manage to abort on their own. Even pregnancy and childbirth are more dangerous than abortion, so even forcing them to give birth is less healthy for women.
