Brad Paisley/LL Cool J song: 'Accidental Racist' 'Not Perfect, but It Is Honest'

Brad Paisley thought "Accidental Racist" would be "an interesting conversation between country music and rap music," but he didn't expect his collaboration with LL Cool J to become a point of controversy.

Paisley told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show that he had been thinking a lot about racism recently, inspired in part by last year's movies Lincoln and Django Unchained. He didn't intend to put the topic to rest in "Accidental Racist" so much as raise questions, he said.

"What we're trying to do is explore what happens when two people have a dialogue," Paisley said. "The entire album Wheelhouse is meant to touch on some themes that I think aren't normally touched on in music, and in the context of the album, the song makes a little more sense."

Although he's dismayed that some listeners have misinterpreted the song, he said he hopes that "something good can come of this."

and he does it a little bit at a time, in a way so disarming, that the country radio market doesn't even know the boundary has been moved til it happened.

Brad has alot of guts

And is also one helleva guitar player.

It is odd that some here perporting to be on the left, do not get the irony/sarcasm/wit that Brad is using.

Brad is a liberal and has not hidden it.

country music always, especially since Bush and Dixie Chicks is hard rightwing.

The door is now open, and its thanks to Brad and a few others keeping it mainstream
(Goes without saying that others like Steve Earle left the country market and basically became Americana, however, they get zero airplay hisorically from the big country stations.

Brad Paisley, and the newer (to the mainstream market, though she has been around for 10 years), Kacey Musgraves are changing that.
Taylor Swift is doing it in her own way
Garth Brooks now is doing it, but he is retired from the day to day, so he really did it only after he retired, not wanting to upset his market.

In a way, Alan Jackson in 2001 had the first song to do it without people realizing he was doing it when he sang the 9-11 song "Where were you when the world stopped spinning" and asked about did you get a gun or watch an I love Lucy rerun instead, and he made it obvious the gun was NOT the way to go. But most people did not even realize his lyrics

And the brand new NashFM 94.7 NYC is revolutionizing this, in that they are going nationwide but basing it in NYC with a NYC attitude, meaning coming from the liberal side over the normal side.

It's unfortunate that this particular song is such dreck. I mean, it's just a really bad song. Aside from that, I've always thought that Brad was a pretty liberal guy who could help lead country music out of the extreme wing nut ditch it's been lying in for so many years.

"I'm not being racist. I'm just being honest".

Yep. An honest to goodness racist.
