(634 posts)You know, the idea that ccpi is being offered with the knowldge that the GOP will turn it down and prove to the People that they are the unreasonable ones?
I find it interesting, because I had the same idea once.
I thought it would be great to offer up abortion in exchange for an 80% tax rate on the upper bracket. A federal ban on abortions for the big tax on the 1%. They'd never take it and they would finally show all the "Religious Right " voters who the GOP really represented. The 1% would lose its endorsement from God.
Man,that was a stupid idea.
I now know how it feels to have an issue you care about most being used as a clever ploy.
It feels like a betrayal.
Plus, you never really know if it was a ploy or not.
In the case of SS, I don't think it was.

(23,325 posts)Obama is just a product of the Chicago machine. So, he's better than Bush, better than Santorum, better than Romney, better than Palin, better than McCain.
But not a whole lot different than Daley or Rahm. Not a progressive.
He's going to give ground on Social Security, Medicare, and he'll do it without getting anything in return.
He got my vote because he was better than the other guy. That's all.

(4,477 posts)So that those who might be foolish enough to try to live on CCPI Social Security in California or New York or what have you will have an "escape route" to a place where their "reduced benefits" might still be enough to proved two or three meals a day... you know, to "help with the bluff" that the CCPI offer is real.
Which, obviously, it couldn't be, because Obama would never stoop to capitulation to the GOP on any point... he's too wily and chess masterly.

(28,552 posts).... it is damaging to the Democratic party brand and history. It was a huge mistake and those trying to claim otherwise will find out they were wrong as they have been so often in the past when claiming sainthood for Obama.

(114,904 posts)is damaging. It provides fodder for republicans in 2014, despite the majority of the party wanting to dismantle Social Security. It puts Social Security on the table in relation to the deficit which it has nada to do with.

(13,305 posts)He's offering up people's health and well being in exchange for his one true goal and what seems to be his priority above all else, which is to get folks like David Brooks and David Gregory and all the serious beltway media insiders to say nice things about him.
That can really be the only explanation for so many of his actions since they are literally the only people to whom so many of the things Obama does and says appeals to.
