Why is Bush still controlling social insurance?
President Obama threatens his legacy by continuing the Bush approach to healthcare and retirement security
According to reports, President Barack Obama hopes that his legacy may include a grand bargain in which Republicans agree to tax increases on the rich if Democrats will agree to cuts in benefits for the elderly, including cuts to Social Security brought about by chained CPI (a different way to adjust Social Security benefits for inflation).
Barack Obama proposes a painful hit to middle-class and working-class seniors, in return for an increase on taxes on the rich so small that they will hardly notice. Bargain? Yes. Grand? Not so much.
By legitimating changes that could lead over time to the conversion of Social Security into a means-tested program for the elderly poor only, Barack Obama has proven himself to be a true and worthy successor of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Obama Tells Progressives He Won't Budge On Bush Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will enter high-stakes budget negotiations firmly committed to seeing the tax rates for high-income earners rise to pre-George W. Bush levels, he assured a gathering of progressive and labor leaders on Tuesday.
"I am not going to budge," he told the group, according to an attendee who relayed material from the meeting on condition of anonymity. "I said in 2010 that I'm going to do this once, and I meant it."

The legacy of the Bush tax cuts, in four charts

With Tuesdays House vote, the George W. Bush tax cuts, born in 2001, reach a new milestone. Originally scheduled to expire at the end of 2010, they are now permanent (or most of them, anyway). Congress voted to extend the income tax cuts for most families earning under $450,000 a year, while taxing capital gains, dividends and tax breaks at higher rates for upper-income earners.

"I think its fair to say that the Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10, 15 years, in the sense that they were challenging conventional wisdom. Now, youve heard it all before. You look at the economic policies that are being debated among the presidential candidates, its all tax cuts. Well, weve done that. Weve tried it. Its not really going to solve our energy problems, for example so some of its the times. - Barack Obama
Recent events seem to strongly indicate that Obama believes the Democratic Party is the party of tired old traditional Republican ideas.
Warren/Grayson 2016 ~ Let's primary all Third Way/New Democrat type republicans out of office.
Occupy.
