Ed Markey of Massachusetts/ Special Election... He can make a difference!

Ed Markey focuses on women's issues with new Massachusetts Senate race TV ad

SNIP:
Abortion in particular has been a lynchpin issue in the special election primary. Markey notes in the ad that he supports abortion rights. Lynch opposes abortion, though Lynch has said he does not want to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case legalizing abortion.

Markey has gotten both endorsements and financial help from groups that favor abortion rights. NARAL Pro-Choice America has spent $40,000 helping Markey, according to Federal Election Commission filings. He has also been endorsed by Planned Parenthood.

Over pictures of women jogging and sitting in class, and of Markey campaigning with women, the ad states, “Women earn only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. Ed Markey knows that’s wrong.” The ad touts Markey’s co-sponsorship of the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and Paycheck Fairness Act. The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which became law, extended the statute of limitations for women seeking compensation for pay discrepancies based on gender. The Paycheck Fairness Act, which did not pass Congress, would have required employers to prove that any discrepancies between male and female pay are job-related, not based in discrimination.

Markey also touted his support for Democratic President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, the health care overhaul that required insurers to cover preventive services including mammograms and birth control with no co-pay. Lynch voted against the Affordable Care Act, though he says he agrees with the goals of reform, because he says it does not do enough to keep health care costs down.

Massachusetts has always stood for progress. And with President Obama ready to lead our nation forward, it’s time for us to elect a progressive Senator who will stand with him.

That Senator is Ed Markey — a passionate progressive who’s led the way on tough issues time and again. He wrote the only climate change bill to pass any chamber of Congress. He’s a champion of net neutrality and fair competition. He’s a steadfast supporter of women’s rights and LGBT equality. He’s a staunch advocate for working families.

Ed Markey is ready to fight for progressive solutions to climate change, gun violence, income inequality, and job creation.
But this special election poses a special challenge — and we need you on board.

I've been away! And I drive folks to the polls.

In my neck of the woods, Markey does very well, but winning depends on people showing up to the polls.

I banged the living it-shay out of my elbow last week, so my left arm has been pretty useless--I am hoping it will mend in time or I'll be driving with the right and wincing when I use the left! Every day it hurts less, so here's hoping!
