Obama cannot be measured on an axis of left-right politics. It's clear that he doesn't care about left-right politics.

He is a person dedicated to making a deal through compromise.

This requires complete detachment from ideologies and incrementalism.

Making the GRAND DEAL is the GRAND objective in pragmatism.

As a pragmatic compromiser Obama is absolutely MAGNIFICIENT, yet completely detached from the desire to actually resist the politicians who desire most to destroy Great Society and New Deal social security networks.

For Obama a compromise is ALWAYS the answer, because the DEAL is the important outcome, not its details.
