McConnell plays the media like a violin...

Last edited Wed Apr 10, 2013, 05:36 PM - Edit history (1)

When caught with your fingers in the cookie jar, blame it on someone else.

First of all, Ashley Judd was not a candidate for office. She had not announced. She was a private citizen. Yet, somehow, the McConnell campaign had knowledge of her medical records and her experiences with depression, etc. And they were prepared to use it against her "if" she became a candidate for office. Somewhere there is a possible crime there. And Mother Jones reports it. They have a recording of McConnell saying as much.

But, the first thing McConnell does, when a recording is discovered of his remarks, is to call the FBI to inquire about the criminality of him getting caught making such remarks about a private citizen. Where did he get the medical record information?

He blames Mother Jones of "Nixonian" tactics. What would we call his tactics? We do not know where the recording of his remarks came from? They may have come from one of his own staff members? It may have been on a conference call with other Republicans? We don't know if it was illegal?

But the media has made the decision to go with McConnell's version. They ask no other questions. What was he guilty of? Is that standard operating procedures to the way he runs his campaigns? There is more to this story than just "who recorded these remarks"?

On edit: My wife tells me that she wrote about her depression in her book. But I wonder if that is all the information that they have? And is that the way they plan on running their campaign? Do they all really do it like Mitch?

McConnell has all this "bad" stuff out there on Ashley Judd, and: it is just out there.

In February 2006, Judd entered a program at Shades of Hope Treatment Center in Buffalo Gap, Texas and stayed for 47 days.[20] She was there because of personal issues, including depression, insomnia and codependency.[21]

She had to know this would be brought up, probably why she reconsidered running.

You don't think any politician would use this kind of information?

It's why we can't have nice things.

5. Like politicians on our side don't do basic opposition research

It should go without saying that one tries to collect as much info on all potential opponents, even if they haven't officially announced yet. And Ashley Judd (her supporters mainly) was being quite vocal about her contemplating a challenge.

And the info being discussed was all publicly available. A to-do over very little, IMO.

But, one of the women said she felt it was pretty bad of turtle man to bring up Ashley Judd's mental illness.....I was shocked they even knew who he was.

They would be incompetent otherwise. You think Axelrod and all the other campaign managers don't have meetings about opponents history and weaknesses? This time is was someone we don't like, next time it could be a Democrat's campaign meeting that gets recorded. I don't see the outrage in this case, it's how politics works.

All he would do is repeat the charge of the meeting being bugged.
