The current state of politics in the US (world?) - at times like these.....

I gather my wife and put the kayaks in the truck and escape - mentally - into the world of nature.

Have to tell you, I just don't know what to think. As a very left wing, progressive thinking, life time Democrat, it no longer surprises me when I end up feeling like few if any politicians represent how my wife and I feel about things. The disconnects in life - between extreme wealth and extreme poverty, between what religion teaches and how many followers interpret it and use it as a dividing weapon, the violence, sexism, racism - you name it-ism - what is there to do, really? The one -ism not included is activism, of course - and that will eventually have to be the answer. But at some point you find yourself tired, or disillusioned, or so utterly pissed off that putting a kayak in a lake and taking pictures of beautiful wildlife feels like a good form of healing. It is escaping? Chickening out? I suppose. Lazy? I suppose.

But sometimes, it all just seems to bizarro world insane that holding on to your loved one, listening to great music, whatever you need to do to find your center and clear the brain - THAT is what feels most important.

Now excuse me...I've got some lettuce and beets to plant!

There's a lot to be said for laziness. I prefer Bach and a good book. Tierra_y_Libertad Apr 2013 #1
