NRA dealt a blow. Gun Grabbers sense victory.

The term "gun grabber" often used by RW'ers, to label those who want background checks made more universally, is of course a misnomer. BUT doesn't stop it's charged rhetoric from being used. Never mind, it didn't work.....vote to occur on Thursday.

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/04/10/1844301/in-blow-to-nra-bipartisan-duo-of-senators-to-announce-agreement-to-expand-background-checks/?mobile=nc

A bipartisan duo of senators with A ratings from the National Rifle Associated have reached a deal to expand background checks to private gun purchases that occur in commercial settings.

<<snip>>

Under the Manchin-Toomey agreement, background checks will occur for sales conducted at gun shows, online, and through public advertisements with full record keeping, which advocates see as essential for enforcement and tracing crime guns. Friend-to-friend and family sales will be exempt from the requirement.

So if I want to sell my .357 to my violent, wife beating cousin I can do so without a background check and I will not be violating gun laws? Why do gun fetishists WANT bad people to have guns? The NRA maintains a board of directors that includes pedophiles, Klan members and sociopaths; this is the main reason we do not have comprehensive common-sense gun laws. Why do NRA advocates need Ted Nugent (pedophile, draft dodger, serial poacher and racist) to rally the followers? Because most NRA members share Nugent's sick attraction to children, his violent and bigoted social and racial rhetoric, and the inability of all right wing extremists to accept responsibility like an adult.
Why do Teabaggers hate America?

Under this regime, any time a person buys a gun from a commercial source, he or she must pass a background check.

Which means when psycho friend/relative blows someone away, the gun will be traced to the last person who passed a background check to get this gun, then if it turns out he or she knowingly transferred the gun to a felon or other person who's prohibited from possessing weapons, he or she's busted!

Not saying it's perfect, but it will help.

most NRA members are in favor of universal background checks, stiffer penalties for straw purchase's.

Most NRA members do not share Nugent's sick attraction to children or his violent and bigoted social and racial rhetoric.

Unless of course, you have proof of this.

No, I'm not a member of the NRA, but I know several of my friends who are and they are in no way what you describe them as.

the two comments you made about "most NRA members". How do you know those statements are true?

I'm willing to say that most, make that all, NRA members, your friends included, are assholes, because they continue to support an organization that's opposed to gun-control legislation.

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/01/28/strong-majority-of-americans-nra-members-back-gun-control

A sizable 89 percent of all respondents, and 75 percent of those identified as NRA members, support universal background checks for gun sales. Similar surveys by Pew Research Center and Gallup have also found background checks to be by far the most popular gun control proposal in the aftermath the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

And you've no idea what most NRA members are like, including my friends.

I'm glad to read it and hope it's accurate.

I know this to be true about ALL NRA members - they continue to support the NRA, and in my estimation that makes them all assholes.
You and I and your buddies will just have to disagree on that point.

Of course we do... they are supporters of a right-wing political action committee. Of course, I'm quite sure they're like many other things too, but to deny the relevant premise is to deny an obvious and relevant truth in regards to this context.

2. "gun grabbers"?

Ok, fine then. I'll accept that. Here's my bipartisan gun grabber plan:

1. On a convenient Sunday and Monday, the National Guard sends big trucks around to every neighborhood in America. You have two chances to put every gun you own in the back of the truck. We instantly become safer as a society.
2. After this two day period, anyone caught with a gun on their person, in their home, or otherwise under their control is arrested and summarily executed. This is the "bipartisan" part - since the mass executions will certainly appeal to RWers.

Problem solved.

Arresting these guys might be a problem.
Fitting that again this weekend we celebrate the guys who neither were openly hostile nor laid down their arms as ordered.
