According to Dante:

Bolgia 5: Corrupt politicians (barrators) are immersed in a lake of boiling pitch, which represents the sticky fingers and dark secrets of their corrupt deals.[41] The barrators are the political analogue of the simoniacs, and Dante devotes several cantos to them. They are guarded by devils called the Malebranche ("Evil Claws&quot , who provide some savage and satirical black comedy – in the last line of Canto XXI, the sign for their march is provided by a fart: "and he had made a trumpet of his ass."[42] The leader of the Malebranche, Malacoda ("Evil Tail&quot , assigns a troop to escort Virgil and Dante safely to the next bridge. The troop hook and torment one of the sinners (identified by early commentators as Ciampolo), who names some Italian grafters and then tricks the Malebranche in order to escape back into the pitch. The promise of safe conduct the poets received from the demons turns out to have limited value (and there is no "next bridge&quot ,[43] so the poets are forced to scramble down into the sixth Bolgia (Cantos XXI through XXIII).

any social safety net in the UK (yet even in this, many of those Tories are still to the left of many US Dem politicians and that is a truly sorry state of affairs!), Lady Thatcher spent her final days in a suite at the Ritz.

Well worth reading. Entitled "Lessons Maggie taught me"

http://www.thenation.com/article/173706/lessons-maggie-taught-me?rel=emailNation%22

One snip: "Detestable though she was, she was a radical and not a reactionary. She has not been removed for any of her offenses against democracy or decency. Rather, she has been deposed by those who worship only opinion polls and their own skins and who yearn for a quiet life and business as usual--living gallantly off the fat of the land."

Ends with "If the British left, which she froze into immobility like Medusa, could bring itself to learn from (Thatcher), then we might not have to look upon her like again."

Should be required reading for Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the Obama White House.

Grahzny.

It can mean 'great', awe-inspiring', or 'terrible', or 'filthy'.

I think the latter two describe Thatcher perfectly...

грозный (grozny) = awesome, great, etc., a la Ivan the Terrible (Ivan Grozny)

грязный (griazny) = dirty, filthy, etc.

Not the same word, though they are very close - only one letter is different.

I mean, really.

Twin size, king, water-bed, futon?

All cotton sheets or a synthetic blend?

Just curious.

Anyway, Thatcher never met a dictator she didn't slobber over in paroxysms resembling sexual frenzy, a poor person whose life she couldn't make even worse then laugh about it, or a working-class wage earner she didn't despise even though she used their children to fill the ranks of the military in her little dreams of a faded Empire.

Glad she's dead, too bad it took so long for it to happen.
