(32,886 posts)If you liked that interview, hear what I said on the topic on my radio show! Fast forward to the 50 minute and 45 second part: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/lesersense/2013/04/07/making-sense-with-steve-leser--n-korea-amina-femen-more

(6,476 posts)is it so hard for these people to understand that these programs are not part of the deficit? SS is not part of the deficit but raising the cutoff is raising taxes? Please..we need to take back the argument. I salute you on your willingness to go on a show like this...I wouldn't have the patience. I'm sick of hearing the rightwing, libertarian claims in regard to our safety net. That includes neolibs as well.

Rather odd statement for a "Democratic strategist", imo.

(16,916 posts)you told Neil Cavuto that it was great to see him.
That sir, has got to earn you a big fat "Pant on Fire."

(32,886 posts)Any Democrat that goes on Neil's shows with any frequency will tell you that. He's tough on camera but is a really nice guy off camera.

(11,700 posts)I think it's cool that you post here to get a feel for what a cross section of Americans think (as well as some great points to make) and then go on national television with it. Most of the media only hear what others in the media think. It shows when you see them being interviewed.
If you don't mind my asking, how did these appearances on Fox come about?

(111,052 posts)Raising payroll tax cap is not the same as raising income taxes. People will know that where their taxes are going - to save Social Security. I think most Americans would agree with that framing of the issue.
Also, since the Bush taxcuts were extended for everyone up to $450K per year, they are now in a donut hole where they pay less in taxes than those making $110,000 per year. It is a question of fairness.

(3,354 posts)Raising the cap just makes everything fairer, because then people making over $113,000 would pay into Social Security the same percentage of their salary as what is taken from people making under that amount.

(6,908 posts)Perhaps the argument "projections are always wrong" should be challenged with "then the projection that Social Security is underfunded is also wrong and strenghtens the argument that not cutting benefits is a reasonable course of action."

(111,052 posts)Their "projections" are always right and everyone else's projections are wrong?

(2,805 posts)You did a good job of keeping things civil. I, personally, can't stand Cavuto and have an aversion to his very voice because of it. He must like you because he seemed to keep himself in check here as well.
